Weathered Tiger Empty Weathered Tiger

Post  Paul Mon Aug 17, 2009 5:52 am

I have been off today so had a good shot at weathering. I found some of the military sites quite snobby when it came to which expensive products to buy for the right wash, what debris to buy, what mud to buy etc etc but some of the model railway sites pretty good for what household items you can use. I prepared my own @special mix' by using the following: Burnt paper from the firepit in the garden mixed with brown shoe polish, some cinnamon, ground coffee, a piece of wire woll which was rusting in the garden which crumbles to powder all held together with some pva glue & water. I applied over the tracks. I bent the fenders etc using small pliers whilst looking at photos to get the effect. Machine gun dents achieved with small model awl, fidished with a bit of a sprinkling of some individual burnt debris & crumbled rusty wire wool & coffee.. It looks not too bad for first effort & cost next to nothing. See what you think lads.

Looking great Paul, it really does look like a Tiger in the field i bet you had a lot of fun doing it lol, we will have to match some of the colours and make sure we get them on to the base will help to bring it all together.

i think i am just about there now. I was not happy with the sharp lines of the camo & the overall paint finish. I have completed it with a dirty dark wash of some of the ground up mixture & water. When that had dried I put over a final wash of the yellow mixed with thinners to dull down the overall appearance. I am quite pleased with it & not going to fiddle any more.
