Bruntingthorpe Airfield Empty Bruntingthorpe Airfield

Post  Mick Sun Jul 26, 2009 2:21 am

I am off to Bruntingthorpe airfield today if anyone is interested (it is near Lutterworth) hopefully the rain will stay off.

They have a couple of English Electric Lightenings there. They are starting them up and running them down the runway on full re-heat! They were the best fighter of the cold war era (nobody told the yanks) It is only recently with the introdution of the Typhoon that its climb record has been beaten. Someone said think about the carbon footprint ...I say carbon footprint my arse these things are a national treasure!

They are not allowed to fly as the CAA say they are too dangerous. They are probably correct as they are basically two jet engines with a seat!

Cannot seem to upload my video. But I found one on you tube from Bruntingthorpe earlier in the year. Also an old clip of one taking off.
